Banta will pay a special dividend of $16.00 on November 21 to holders as of Wednesday, November 22. That’s 30.8% of the share price of $51.950. The company is being acquired for $52.50 (before special dividend) by RR Donnelly, so not much of a dividend play here. This dividend is in addition to the Company’s regular quarterly dividend of 18 cents paid late october.

    It’s the part of the article regarding record date etc.

    Payment of Special Dividend
    The Company also announced today that its Board of Directors has approved payment of a special cash dividend of $16.00 per share. The dividend is payable November 21, 2006, to shareholders of record on November 10, 2006. This dividend is in addition to the Company’s regular quarterly dividend of 18 cents per common share payable November 1, 2006, to shareholders of record on October 20, 2006.

    So basically you had to have owned the stock on the 9th of Nov in order to get the dividend.

    Does anyone think otherwise? If so please explain.
